Recent Developments at the Art Gallery By Bena Jackson Christchurch Art Gallery: Te Puna O Waiwhitu has just undergone major renovations in the permanent collection galleries.
The old galleries were 6 ½ years old and were in need of refreshing. The new space is designed to increase the viewing quality of the art and make the collections easier to navigate. Although the renovations began in July, the planning began two years ago when the gallery began talking to architects and looking a design options.
The new hang in the galleries provides a new way of viewing and thinking about the collection. Gallery staff say they’re very eager to see the public’s opinions and the way they react to the new spaces and exibits.
During the renovation process the galley has been keeping a blog of what is happening in the spaces. The blog is available to read at www.broughttolight.wordpress.com
The new space will be opened on November the 28th, under the name ‘Brought to Light: A new look at the collection’.
